Last week, I attended the community meeting in Pie Town to listen to residents, ask questions, and learn more about the proposed Ane Uranium Exploration Project.
The proposal currently before state regulators is not a permit for a uranium mine. It is an application to drill exploratory boreholes to determine whether uranium deposits are present. Any future mining proposal would require a separate approval process and additional environmental review.
After hearing from community members and learning more about the project, my position is clear.
As a member of the Catron County community, we have no need for uranium drilling here. Whether exploratory or full mining, the answer is no.
Our water, our public lands, our ranching heritage, and our rural way of life are too important to put at risk. I believe we should protect the natural resources that families, ranchers, hunters, and future generations depend on.
I encourage everyone to stay informed and learn more about the proposed project as the review process continues.
